Pootharekulu is a famous sweet from the village of Atreyapuram in the East Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Pootharekulu is a combination of two words - pootha meaning coating and rekulu meaning sheets. As the name suggests, Pootharekulu is made from stacking and rolling thin sweet sheets. A wafer like sweet, Pootharekulu was initially served to the royalty, but then the common folks also got to eat Pootharekulu during festivals. Today, Pootharekulu is produced in large quantities and is available in Jaggery Pootharekulu and Sugar Pootharekulu variants. Dry Fruit Pootharekulu is a new addition to this sweet.
